What slang do you need to know to stay hip?

What was your favorite slang word when you were in high school? Here are some slang words you should know if you want to keep up with what teens are saying now.

Sadly missing from this list is "cap" and "no cap", my 15 year old's favorites. ("Cap" means you're lying and "no cap" means "you're telling the truth.)

Understanding what's being said is important, whether it's in face-to-face conversation or online chats.

You need to know the slang, emojis and hashtags that your kids are using.

The slang examples above are light-hearted but there are darker slang words to watch out for in texts and direct messages. For example, KMS or KYS (kill myself or kill yourself) can be meant as a joke or can be something you need to take seriously.
