Situational awareness - one more reason to look up from devices

If a person needed your help, would you notice?

Hats off to seventh grader Dillon Reeves - he was taking the school bus home and noticed his bus driver was struggling with some sort of medical emergency. Dillion quickly got up from his seat, took the wheel of the bus and hit the brakes, averting a disaster.

Why was he able to save the day?

Because he wasn’t on his phone. In fact, he doesn’t have a phone.

While other kids were on their cell phones, listening to music, or otherwise engrossed in their electronics, Dillon wasn’t distracted and was able to react quickly. Situational awareness - understanding what is going on around you - is a powerful life skill to teach kids.

As his Dad said “What else are you going to do if you don’t have a phone? Look at people, notice stuff, look out the window.”
